STSMs under TrANsMIT COST Action

One of the STSMs realized under the TrANsMIT COST Action is detailed in the first part of this series:

STSM Grantee: İlayda Ozbag Togacar
Home Institution: Yeditepe University, Istanbul, Türkiye
Home Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Turan
Host Institution: University of Chemistry and Technology (UCT Prague), Czech Republic
Host Supervisor: Monika Vitvarova
STSM Title: Techno-Economic Analysis of the Post-Combustion Carbon Capture Technology Integration to Primary Aluminium Production
Duration: 01/07/2024 – 30/09/2024

Within the framework of the COST Action TrANsMIT, İlayda Ozbag Togacar, a PhD candidate at Yeditepe University’s Department of Materials Science and
Nanotechnology Engineering successfully completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the University of Chemistry and Technology (UCT Prague).
During her stay, İlayda collaborated with Monika Vitvarova on a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis of integrating post-
combustion carbon capture technologies into primary aluminium production. The project aimed to identify key environmental impact contributors and evaluate the
feasibility of reducing CO₂ emissions across the aluminium value chain from bauxite extraction to ingot casting.
Her research experience included visits to several leading academic and industrial facilities, such as the Juliska Laboratory (CTU Prague), the Department of
Sustainable Fuels and Green Chemistry (UCT Prague), and the Ledvice Power Plant (ČEZ Group).
She presented the results of her research at the TrANsMIT COST Action Istanbul Workshop (17–18 September 2024) with a presentation titled “Techno-Economic
Analysis of Post-Combustion Carbon Capture in Primary Aluminium Production.” Following this, she presented her poster “Environmental Implementation in the
Aluminium Industry: Türkiye’s Path to Sustainability” at the 13th Trondheim CCS Conference (TCCS-13) in Norway.
Congratulations on your work, İlayda!
